Depression can be debilitating affecting our daily lives and holding us back from feeling contented, peaceful and happy. It can result in a lack of motivation and lethargy, with feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness and loneliness. We may feel disconnected from life and lack direction. Our energy has become stagnant and it can seem difficult to see a way out.
These feelings occur when a person is unable to balance the positive and negative minds or to access the neutral mind. If there is a tendency to live in the negative mind, depression can occur. This imbalance of energy then creates a hormonal imbalance in the physical body. Each time we feel down we further establish and entrench the depression pathways in the brain.
Kundalini yoga specifically massages the pituitary gland to balance the hormones in the body to encourage the neutral mind and balance the positive and negative minds. Through pranayam (working with the breath), we balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain to give perspective and emotional balance. We use simple movement to allow the process of physical and energetic metabolism to get rid of toxic substances and unwanted emotions. We connect with the navel point to realign with ourselves and the world around us. Physiologically, we strengthen the nervous system so that we feel more able to cope. We get more oxygen and blood to the brain to massage the pituitary gland to regulate our moods and behaviour. We reconnect with the Navel point, our centre, to give us renewed energy and a sense of purpose. Over time, we rebalance our energy body to manifest in the physical body and re-establish our natural rhythm to feel lighter with a renewed passion for life.
